Mos Eisley Slave quarters

Hotel Ksar Hadada

Appears in: Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Originally: An ancient Amizigh (Berber) storehouse

Like other ksars in Southern Tunisia, Ksar Hadada was originally used as a storehouse for surplus grain and other goods by the native Amizigh. George Lucas and crew returned to Tunisia in the 90s to film Episode I: The Phantom Menace and used this site as part of Slave Quarters Row in Mos Eisley. Qui-Gon Jinn is pictured speaking with Anakin’s mother, Shmi, about Anakin’s giftedness and questioning her about his father.

Later in the scene, Anakin is shown showing off his podracer to his friends who all doubt his ability (and his podracer’s as well) to race and win the next race. Jar Jar Binks is also seen electrocuted by the engines of Anakin’s podracer which renders his tongue numb.
