Darth Maul Lookout
Ong Jemel

Originally: Natural rock formation in the Sahara Desert
As Darth Maul hunts for Queen Amidala and the imperial starship, he lands on the outskirts of Mos Espa in Tatooine. He then deploys his Sith Droids to stalk the Queen and her entourage. This scene is filmed on a hill overlooking the salt flat that sits below the “Neck of the Camel” (literal translation of the Arabic “Ong Jemel”.) This desolate landscape where life is scarce was used as the backdrop for the fictional planet of Tatooine.
We recommend you visit this site by 4×4 as the shifting sand and salt flats can cause a regular car to get stuck, especially if there has been some rain in the recent past. Our drivers can take you on an adventure, up and down the sides of the natural hills and dunes of the Sahara Desert. Upon stopping at Ong Jemel, you can also climb up the neck if you’d like but be careful, the shale-like rock breaks quite easily; climbing up is simple, descending the neck can be treacherous!
