I had a great time!
Highlights:
- The Lars Homestead Exterior: All of my friends were jealous of the sunset picture. As I stood there, I remembered all my time as a kid pretending to be Luke Skywalker, standing in that exact spot. It was a very existential experience.
- Ben Kenobi’s house and the Tosche Station: It was a very cool (and beautiful) area. And you would never know from the movie that it is right by the sea.
- Lars Homestead Interior: I slept in and had a beer in Luke’s house. Need I say more?
- In addition to being a Star Wars fan, I am also a historian. It was great to talk to Nader about the Arab Spring. It was also very interesting to see the Ghriba Synagogue (I had no idea that Tunisia had a significant Jewish population or would have guessed that such a significant site was there.) The Okba Ibn Nafaa mosque in Kairouan was also very interesting- oldest in Africa and “4th holiest site in Islam”.
Nader and Mohammed (Khamis) were great. They really listened to what I wanted to do and took care of me. They did not try to push places on me or send me to expensive places to eat or buy gifts. Everywhere we went, they knew great places for the best tuna sandwiches and shisha. What more could I ask for?
I highly recommend that every Star Wars fan, lover of History, or if you just want to see visit a beautiful place, to pay a visit to Tunisia. And yes, Mosaic North Africa is a fantastic way to do just that. I can’t wait to go back one day.
